Reflections from the KwaZulu-Natal Spirit Festival 2025
Written by Leo Ming
I’ve just returned from the KwaZulu-Natal Spirit Festival – my fifth year attending this inspiring and enriching gathering.
The festival brings together a diverse community of practitioners, teachers, healers, and seekers, all sharing their knowledge, wisdom, and experiences in the fields of alternative healing and personal growth. It provides a unique opportunity to explore different modalities, connect with like-minded people, and gain fresh perspectives on health, wellbeing, and self-discovery.
This year’s programme featured a wide range of offerings, including Taiji, Yoga, Breathwork, Sound Journeys, Near-Death Experience (NDE) discussions, Crystals, Nutrition, Past Life Regression, Meditation, Bodywork, Nia, and many other fascinating workshops and presentations.
One of the highlights for me was participating in the fire walk, expertly facilitated by the Viking himself, Cobus Visser. Watching so many people walk across burning coals was a powerful reminder of what human beings are capable of when they commit fully to a goal. What we can achieve often lies far beyond the limitations we place upon ourselves.
For me, the fire walk was another personal achievement (besides being a snake rescuer) and a profound lesson in mindset. The experience resonated deeply with the principles we practise in the martial arts: truth, honour, courage, persistence, effort, discipline, self-control, and confronting one’s own fears and limitations. When standing before the flames, all of these qualities come into play.
What I appreciate most about the festival is the spirit of openness, learning, and community. Each year I leave with new insights, renewed inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the many paths that can support healing, growth, and transformation.
A heartfelt thank you to the organisers, presenters, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to making this event such a special experience. Your passion and dedication continue to create a space where people can learn, connect, and grow.
Special Thanks to Debra Robins; Christa Buthelezi; Quinton O’Dwyer for hosting me and making me feel like I am part of their team.!
Until next year!
Leo
